This year the boy's school held a fundraiser for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). This foundation is amazing not only on the political front but also in the local communities.
The fundraiser was a two part deal and the 10% of the money raised gets donated back the the P.E. program. The first part was an info session with the school during chapel. Clay and his teacher talked about type 1 diabetes and what life is like for Clay and all the other kids who have it. Then the sweet girl from JDRF spoke about the fundraiser which was a walk happening in two weeks. In this time the kids asked for a minimum donation of a dollar from others and turned in their packet on the day of the walk.
Now for those of you who know my oldest you are very aware that when someone looks up the definition of shy you find a picture of Clay. Something has happened to him...he got up and spoke to his classmates, answered their questions, and told them "thank you". Oh God is so good!! The person that Clay is and continues to grow into is so special.
Two weeks passed and we were hearing good news about the response. Well walk day came and we were so surprisingly shocked to find the amount was over $3500 dollars. This from a small school who has just held two fundraisers in the four weeks before this. Oh God is so good! The walk was so special...posters saying "We love you Clay" and facts about diabetes decorated the path.
The teachers and staff went out of their way to help us educate and raise money for something so near to us. My sweet boy felt so loved and special. The best way memory from that day was hearing one of Clay's friends say "Today your special" as he patted Clay on the back.
Oh God is so good!
Thanks for the comment on my blog :) God is good!! The best of good health to your boy, diabetes sure can take a toll on a family sometimes but I am grateful for the blessings that have come because of it. Have a great day!
